French Language Learning - The Thrill of Speaking In France

By Hugo Durrant

In learning the French language it is strange, perhaps, but true that there are few things quite as exciting as speaking French with native French speakers in France or another French-speaking country. If you have not experienced this for yourself you may be doubtful about what I am saying, but here is my own experience to demonstrate the point.

I recall with pleasure various conversations held in French during trips to France. These were not massively important conversations in themselves, not even about business or politics for example. They were simple chatting-type conversations about everyday life.

For example, I had a very enjoyable conversation with the person who was running a car hire establishment, a conversation in French language that lasted for some 20 minutes while we waited for the car I was to hire to be returned ready for me to use. It was a simple conversation during which I was learning about life in that little town and how it was different from life elsewhere, nothing ground-breaking in itself...

So what is it about putting your French language learning into practice like this that is so exciting? A simple conversation like the one described above, conducted in English as one's own native language, and would be pleasant but hardly noteworthy. What does make it so seemingly special, is the power that learning French gives you to enter an entirely new world that is separate from the one you normally inhabit.

If you have learned French, you can enter that world of French culture that is normally barred from your life and understanding, for to learn about French culture using the medium of English is far from the same thing. This ability to enter the life of another culture seems an almost magical skill that sets you apart from others who do not possess it.

French language learning and ability also has many practical uses, apart from this exciting magical aspect. In practical terms being able to speak French enables you to function within a French speaking culture -- you can hire a car, order food in a restaurant, book a hotel room and so on.

As an incidental bonus, learning the French language will enable you to impress those who do not possess this skill. For example if you go on vacation to a French speaking country with some friends who cannot speak the language, then your ability to converse with the locals will almost be a magical power that gives you a sense of control your friends do not possess.

A note of caution. French language learning will not enable you to do what is described here unless you have access to the sounds of a native French speaker. You can achieve this through personal tuition, but that is very expensive, so it is better to find a high quality language learning course that incorporates a large element of audio made by French native speakers.

You can get a very reasonably priced French language learning course based on native French audio by visiting Quickly Learn to Speak the French Language with Confidence You can even sign up for a free course there to start with!
